Recording Update

Thursday, February 26th, 2009

Tonight Mike wrapped up recording his last bit of drums. Even with just the drums, we’re all really excited about where these songs are going. Jess starts bass recording tomorrow and than I’ll (Mark) will be let loose in the studio to track guitars and vocals. We’re really hoping to be able to have these recordings finished before the end of March.

Here are some pictures of Mike in the studio.

Tracking Drums

Wednesday, February 25th, 2009

We’re head first right now into drum recording. We’re being very picky with all of this, and I have to say Bob is doing a remarkable job helping us shape our drums into the sound we always had in our head. There isn’t too much to say about it, but I’m really excited. Just the raw sounds we have now make me very excited.

I’ll post more as we go.

Excited About Recording

Thursday, February 19th, 2009

Hi,

The ramp up for recording is well under way. Jess and I are sick at the moment and praying that by the time we get into the studio we’ll be better, and also that we don’t overdose on vitamin C.

We’ve been treating our two mall shows this month as an opportunity to test our new songs live audience reactions. A very important barometer to a song’s quality, and I’m very encouraged by the responses we’ve seen/heard so far. As well, we’ve been making some small but important changes to the way our music machine works.

Our debut album was created ourselves in a house in Chandler. It was a tremendous learning process, but in order to improve we’ve realized that we’ll have to move past our pure DIY ethic to allow our musical plant to grow. We looked all around and we realized there is really only one right place and right person, Bob Hoag and his immaculately constructed and perfectly adorned Flying Blanket studios.

Our next offering will be much more focused than anything we’ve done so far. We’re working with a ferocious new momentum, in a brand new era.

Another note, Jess and I have both changed the gear that we were using. While this isn’t the most important part of a band, it does give a lot of tone and style characteristics. We’re moving in a more “classic” direction.  If you want to read more about what we use you can read about it in the Know section of our web page. The gear is listed under each different member.

Here is a tentative list of the songs we’re recording, so you can listen for them on Friday at Dessert Ridge Marketplace.

Lucy (I see) -  a new arrangement of first demo we ever recorded
The Juggler - a brand new song about juggling the things in life you love
Drive In - a new song about first/new love
The Bad Months - a brand new song about dealing with difficult people and forgiveness

Year in Review: 8 was good for 7

Wednesday, December 31st, 2008

Hello everybody,

2008 has been a good year, and we’re looking forward to 2009 with great expectancy.

This year we released our eponymous debut album; a 12 song collection of songs recorded at the same house we lived in. It came together brilliantly. It’s been a fantastic tool for getting the word out about us, and we’ve been able to sell at least one at every show we’ve played since it’s been released.

We had an amazing CD release show at the Modified; diligently well documented with photos by Jeremiah Scheffer. It was quite amazing to see the Modified full of Seven Car Pileup fans.

We played some great shows at some new favorite places (Phase 54, Last Exit, Desert Ridge Marketplace). As well, we were able to rock out the Glendale Glitters block party and Cheba Hut’s 420 party.

We met some awesome new people from some great bands (Talk Fiction, Peppermint James, Kinch, Juicy Newt, Flux Manifesto)

Last but certainly not least, we joined ranks with our new best friend and manager Alisha Forrester Scott. Not only is she a sweetheart and a true friend, she’s helped us in ways not imaginable without her. We truly appreciate her assistance thus far.

We’re sure 2009 will bring even more fun. We’re planning to record and release a few new songs, play many more shows, and much much more.

See you next year,

Jess Mark & Mike

Last Christmas - RePost

Tuesday, December 2nd, 2008

Last Christmas, we recorded a complete re-tooling of Wham’s seminal classic Christmas song, Last Christmas. We pulled out it’s old archaic guts and gave it a more efficient one, much like what Jess is doing to his seminal 1946 vehicle classic.  Also just like Jess’ car rebuild, we threw in something that seemingly doesn’t belong. Jess chose Japanese engineering, but Seven Car Pileup decided on the Beatles She’s So Heavy (I Want You). Is it sacrilege? Probably. Does it rock a whole hell lot more than it did before? Most defiantly! Well, we decided to pull it out of the archives and offer it up to you as our yearly gift of appreciation.

This song is yours free, as our christmas gift for you.
