Goodbye to Jessica Tucker, for just a little bit
Our merch lady extraordinaire will be heading across the continent at the end of January to go work for Disney World for a little bit. It’s a tremendous opportunity for her, but we will miss her. However, probably not as much as her husband our sound guy, Josh Tucker. To celebrate her and to wish her off well we’ll be putting on a show in her honor. I can firmly promise you all the bands we’re playing with are top tier. Some of the best bands that the Arizona music scene has to promise you. There are a couple more I wish I could add into the bill, but each one of these is easily in my top 10 list of favorite local bands.
Mergence - We’ve grown to enjoy this band quite a bit. We have and will continue to profess our strong admiration for Adam Bruce’s lyrics and melodies, Yod’s guitar lines, Jason Roedl’s bombastic but consistent drums and Jason Fingar’s bass lines. Their stellar sound is a mixture of remarkable band chemistry and thoughtful song-writing. Think Zeppelin, with Beatle songs.
The Haymarket Squares - Another one of our favorite local groups. The Haymarket Squares take punk to a place it has seldom gone before, bluegrass. They have mixture of punk energy and irreverence with an ornate folk charm which they call punk-grass for the people. They’re the only band in town that can have people nodding their heads and dancing along to left-leaning politicking.
Sister Cities - With their nifty mixture of garage, surf, and sunny pop, the Sister Cities feel like they could be from the mid 60’s California scene. Yet, the Sister Cities have a modern sensibility that is very now. Think a better version of the Raveonettes, or a more aural version of the Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, or a leaner British Sea Power. Whatever you think, they’re a great show.
…and of course we’ll (Seven Car Pileup) be playing as well.
We hope to see you there!
